It is with great sadness that we record the death of Mr Malcolm Davies (Mal) of Iscennen Road Ammanford South Wales on Friday 11th May 2007.
Mal worked underground for many years before moving to work with the 3m Company at the Gorseinon plant and then a short time in the USA until ill-health forced him to retire.
The later years saw Mal become the webmaster of the website "Save Our Common Mountain Environment" (socme) which is fighting the onset of wind farms on his beloved landscape.
Mal having been a miner had an intricate knowledge of subterranean works and used this knowledge tirelessly to help stop developers ruining the uplands of Wales.
The Socme website became known worldwide under the auspices of Mal and has become a valuable source of information and inspiration to many groups who are starting up on their individual campaigns around the country.
His passion for all things Welsh will be sadly missed by all who touched his life in Ammanford where he lived with his partner Ellyn.
Yes , He was a true environmentalist who couldn't understand why people would want to bury this wonderful landscape under concrete for a technology which gave little gain, the sacrifice in his eyes was too great.
Before the onset of ill health, he enjoyed sailing and had a boat moored off the Welsh coast at Llanstephan, where he loved every minute of it.
Mr Malcolm Davies or Mal as he was known to his many friends will be sadly missed by all who knew him and judging by the messages of sympathy and support that have flooded in from across the world, people will notice very much his passing.
