Once in a while there's need to completely forget about wind turbines, global warming and get lost in other matters. This happened to me this morning while I read the latest issue of the Carmarthenshire Life magazine. Most of it's contents were interesting but two items really caught my attention because of my love of Welsh heritage and local history. I'm therefore going to share these two articles with you and hope that you'll forgive me for digressing from the wind power scam.

The first, entitled 'Three Carmarthenshire curiosities from Lynn Hughes' is about Welsh heritage and myth. The second entitled 'Riots in Ammanford' is local history written by my crazy Canadian, Ellyn. That isn't the reason why I've included it though. Her article about the coal miners riots gave me wonderful memories of my maternal grandfather who'd settled in Ammanford after leaving his native Lancashire in search of work in the coal mines in this valley. I don't condone violence and he wasn't a violent man, who I cannot remember ever losing his temper, yet he was involved in the riots.

At one time he was on the run from the police for about a week and a half, being fed by farmers who couldn't really afford to spare food, and sleeping rough in field hedgerows and hayricks on the slopes of Betws mountain.
These rioters didn't have anything so they had nothing to lose when oppressive coal owners forced them to riot.
I hope that you enjoy reading these two articles.

On the next web page enter E/10446 into the "Application Number" box and click on the 'search' button to view the case file which includes numerous documents of the Planning Application + Environmental Survey + Noise survey + Mining Survey + photomontages etc.)
84 documents 49.7Mbytes
If this wasn't such a serious issue, the photo montages produced by the developers, looking from Penlle'r Castell; St Illtyd's Way; Pontamman and Capel Hendre etc. could be regarded as being hysterically funny.

Due to the Copyright Clause that has been incorporated at the foot of the Carmarthenshire County Council web page, I am unable to incorporate any of the contents on this web site.
Obviously I haven't had the time to read all that's available but I have read the Mining Assessment Report due to there being coal dust circulating in my veins. I'm appalled by what I read in that report, especially Section 6.0 - "Potential Mining Hazards" and Section 7.0 - "Conclusions". If the Carmarthenshire County Council allow this proposed wind farm installation to go ahead, they must be insane and should all be "committed" in my personal opinion. It is suffice to only say on this web page that the report clearly implies...
"The presence of old mine workings presents a hazard to the proposed wind farm development."

The report also mentions that an "Abandoned Plan Search" showed that there were 86 different plans available for the site and surrounding area, but I haven't noticed any mention yet of the Mount Colliery (sunk in 1870; closed 02/02/1959; locally nick-named "The Butcher's") which entered the mountainside very close to the present day Scotch Pine public house, and was extensively worked during my lifetime.

I refer of course to the vile, cowardly atrocity commited against innocent human lives in London last Thursday on 07/07.

The Death of the Upland Areas of Wales
Later today the Welsh Assembly Government will announce their plans for a large expansion in the develpment of onshore wind turbine installations in Wales.

"Is this a dagger which I see before me,
The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible
To feeling as to sight? or art thou but
A dagger of the mind, a false creation,
Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?
I see thee yet, in form as palpable
As this which now I draw."

Act Two Scene One: Is this a dagger which I see before me - Macbeth

Folks, it's one of those days again.
I make no apology for straying slightly from strictly "anti-wind power" business but it seems to me that the wind power industry is so massively politically orientated that I feel that I have to add a side issue.

Although you all might not have had the personal pleasure of meeting the lady, as some of us have, undoubtedly you have all heard of Elizabeth Mann from County Durham.
Knowing Elizabeth, it comes as no surprise to find that Elizabeth, an extremely vocal anti-wind power campaigner, also highlights the lunacy of "Two Jags Prescott" and his planning policies such as PPS 22, and his attempt to construct a Regional Assembly for the north east of England.

All of us living in Wales know of the shambles and the enormous bureaucratic expense that we have to endure from our own Welsh Assembly sheep, so it is enlightening to find that 'others' in the UK have noticed what is happening and have rejected regional Assemblies.
You may think, "What's this got to do with the wind power industry?"
It simply endorses how our lives and futures have become so politically driven by the 'green vote catchers' in the UK.

To try to comprehend how corrupt our politicians and their thinking has become in order to achieve their own personal dreams, please read Neil Herron's Blogspot which includes the 'Christopher Booker's Sunday Telegraph Notebook' comments, together with added comments from "our" Liz.
Neil Herron's Blogspot

The other issue is of the "exclusive" publication on the 23rd of June 2005, in the "Cambrian News" (typically not followed up by the National Press) of the grave concerns expressed by the Environment Agency that the Cefn Croes wind farm installation has created an enormous enviromental problem.
Consternation as wind farm site is found to be emitting carbon dioxide

Dr John Etherington has taken the time to study and comment on the public domain "Minutes of the Cefn Croes Management Committee" meetings. It is appalling that the Cefn Croes installation was allowed to proceed, knowing the grave concerns expressed openly by that committee.
Extracts from the Cefn Croes Environmental Management Committee Minutes

Not only is the Cefn Croes installation an environmental crime, but a fellow environmentalist colleague of Dr John's from Maryland, USA, has supplied web links of similar installations in America where acres upon acres of high-elevation forested ridgetops have been clear-felled to accomodate wind turbine installations.
