Mountain bike fear over turbines (article - web link)
Many thanks to Caroline E. for the above web link.
I realise that it is February 1st. today and not April 1st. but after reading some of the content in today's Western Mail newspaper, it certainly brings a smile to my face.I especially like the "China delight" letter and the "antimatter" article makes me wonder what my highly qualified physicist family relation (a product of Swansea University) now retired but still called upon world-wide as a consultant, would say about this, because he and his team while working at CERN, Geneva, were accredited with creating the largest amount of antimatter in the world. When we spoke of this a few weeks ago, he couldn't envisage any foreseeable possibility of the generation of commercial electricity from antimatter. Incidentally, he also believes that commercial wind power generation is a colossal public con.

The next item is not about wind power, or even energy, but it is about the sad fact that we in Wales appear to be governed by people who really do not understand what they talk about. Winds of change may blow into Spanish Fork (article - web link) The above article demonstrates another example of the 'Green Wire' syndrome. More misinformation to the public on how an electrical power grid system operates; coming from the mouth of the CEO of a wind power developer. There is no 'magic filter' available to the consumer which can determine one type of generated electricity on a grid system from another type of generated electricity. The only difference being is determined by what the consumer naively agrees to pay for in the 'small print' agreement to their own particular supplier. Electricity is supplied to consumers from a common grid system which in turn is supplied by various methods of power generation. When are the public going to realise that on a grid system, 'electricity is quite simply electricity', whether it is generated by fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro, or wind?

Keeping a keen eye on the tourism horizon (article - web link)
In the above article, it is interesting to read the words of professor Dylan Jones-Evans, Co-Director of the National Entrepreneurship Observatory for Wales.... "Given the crucial importance of tourism in this region, you would have thought that the Wales Tourist Board and the Economic Development Department of the Assembly would have fully considered the impact on the tourism industry of wind farms located in this precise spot. Instead, this has been swept aside with a glib comment from the developers that there would probably be a 4% decline in tourism as a result..... However, if such developments in key tourism locations are now acceptable, then I look forward with trepidation to the Assembly Government placing such wind farms off the coast of Tenby or the Gower, which are just as windy as the North Wales coast."

Will the end of subsidy be the end of the road for hill farmers? (4 page article - web link) 23/02/06
Essential reading for the hill farmers among us!
Is this another disguised ploy from Carwyn Jones AM and the Welsh Assembly to ensure that upland farms in Wales are abandoned to clear the way for large scale commercial wind farm installations?
A new weekly television series entitled "Farm in Peril" started last Tueday (21st February) on BBC 2W which gave an excellent 'fly-on-the-wall' perspective into the long hours, financial hardship, and the 24/7/365 commitment of one hill farming family in Breconshire. If you are able to receive BBC 2W television, it is highly recommened viewing.

As the Scarweather Sands protest group can confirm... it was none other than this German owned E.ON UK company who quite recently went begging, cap-in-hand, to the UK government for financial assistance to build the Scarweather Sands wind farm at Porthcawl. Not only did they want us to pay for their obscene profits with 'green' subsidy charges on our electricity bills, but they also wanted 'Joe Public' to pay for the 'privilege' to build their proposed off-shore wind farm with UK tax-payer money, as well. Where is this public scam going to end?
Never mind folks, it is St. David's Day tomorrow.
