The Cefn Croes Mystery
A young lady anti-wind power campaigner from west Wales decided to drive to the Cefn Croes wind farm this morning (17/08/05) to witness for herself the news of the environmental disaster that had been created during the construction of the wind farm. Rumours have been in abundance about this, and an 'exclusive' article was published in the 'Cambrian News' newspaper on June 23rd 2005, telling of the complete and utter destruction of the upland peat beds that used to be on Cefn Croes.

Dead peat.     More dead peat.

The young lady drove around the wind turbine site unhindered, taking some photos.
Her comments were...
"The first impression is the sight of the vast quantity of dead peat surrounding the turbines, left over from the destroyed upland peat bed. Nothing but sheer devastation of an natural co2 land sink."

Felled trees.     Power line.

The campaigner's next impression was that of the number of trees that had been felled just to accomodate power lines and how those trees were left to lie around. Not exactly the impression that most people would have of the Forestry Commission.

Now comes the real MYSTERY of Cefn Croes.
It isn't the environmental disaster that has been created that is the mystery because that is a known fact. The real Cefn Croes mystery is, where has it gone?

Plaque Plinth"Where has what gone?" you might well ask.
Look at the photo on the left. If you had read the Cambrian News exclusive article linked to further up this page, you will have seen a photo of Andrew Davies AM, smirking broadly alongside the ceremonial opening day plaque which bore his name. Well here's the plinth folks, but where's the plaque?

That's the mystery of Cefn Croes!!
What's happened to the plaque?

There is an unconfirmed rumour that it was seen recently on the Internet auction web site, e-Bay, but it isn't on e-Bay any longer.

Another unconfirmed rumour is that the plaque is now in a collection alongside a Llandewi Brefi roadsign.
Do you remember that one?

The roadsign for the village of Llandewi Brefi disappeared after it had become famous through the 'Little Britain' comedy series, as the home of 'the only gay in the village' fame.
If the missing plaque rumour is true, it makes one wonder what possible connection there would be between the Llandewi Brefi roadsign and the Andrew Davies AM's Cefn Croes commemorative plaque.
Strange - eh?
